The Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (MPKV), Rahuri is the premier Agricultural University in Maharashtra that renders services to the farmers through Education, Research and Extension Education. In pursuance of the Maharashtra Agricultural University (Krishi Vidyapeeth) Act 1967, initially, the Maharashtra Agricultural University (Krishi Vidyapeeth) was established for the entire Maharashtra State and started functioning in March, 1968 with its office at Mumbai.

Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV), Akola was established in 1969. It offers programs dedicated to agrarian sciences. The courses offered include B.Sc, B.Tech, M.Sc, M.Tech, and Doctoral Degree programs in the faculties of Agriculture & Engineering.

3) Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani (VNMKV Parbhani) -
Established in 1972, on Land grant pattern, Marathwada Agricultural University (MAU) Parbhani is one of the four Agrilcultural universities in state of Maharashtra. Except some industrialization around Aurangabad and Nanded, the entire region has rural setting. The first College of Agriculture was established in 1956 at Parbhani and this was considered the real access to higher education in agriculture to the people of Marathwada region. Marathwada Agricultural University was established in the year 1972. The university at present has 12 constituent colleges.
